Side hill lies

Side hill lies

Here are some pointers to help play side hill lies.

Ball below the feet

  • In general position the ball in the stance.
  • Stand much closer to the ball and make the club sit more upright, this has the effect of feeling that the shaft is longer and so it’s easier to get to the bottom of the ball.
  • Depending on the severity of the slope you will need to bend your legs more.
  • The swing angle should now be made more up and down.
  • Because of the above and the fact that the face will now be pointing slightly right (right handed golfer) you should allow for the ball to fade by aligning your body to the left.
  • Use more club from this position as the ball will not travel as far.

Ball above your feet

  • In general position the ball in the stance.
  • You will need to stand a little bit further away from the ball but also it will help if you grip down the club a little.
  • The swing angle should be around your body (flatter).
  • Because of the above and the fact that the face will now be pointing slightly to the left (right handed golfer) you should allow for the ball to draw by aligning your body to the right. Note if you lean in to the slope too much when playing the shot you may push the ball
  • bREMEMBER ALL AWKWARD LIES ARE BEST PLAYED TRYING TO KEEP YOUR BODY AS BALANCED AS YOU CAN
