Manage the aspects you can control

Golf throws a constant challenge to all of us who play the game in the many number of different aspects that can affect our game but sometimes having the wrong attitude to things that are outside of our control only increases the difficulty of this challenge needlessly. Let’s look at some of the factors that are outside of control:-

  • You cannot control your playing partners
  • You cannot control what another player shoots
  • You cannot control the weather
  • You cannot control course conditions
  • You cannot control if your ball gets an unlucky bounce like hitting a sprinkler head

Recognising you cannot control everything in golf and having an optimistic outlook to things like the weather can give you an advantage over others playing the game. Having a poor attitude to these factors often creates unrealistic expectations.
