Finding the Recipe

I read a nice little story a while back about a young girl starting out in golf and taking a few golf lessons. The Professional after a few sessions got to know the student quite well and found out she had a number of interests one of which was baking. The Pro during a lesson asked her “what was her favourite thing to bake?” and without hesitation she said “chocolate sponge cake”.  The Pro then asked her “how she knew how to bake this chocolate cake?” Very simple she said “I have a recipe that I follow!” “In some ways” said the pro “that’s very similar to what we want you to do in your golf; we are trying to learn how to follow your own golf recipe.”

This applies to us all. We all need a recipe for our golf; it doesn’t have to be the same as the next persons although like baking, a number of the ingredients must be present for it to work.

At times it is useful to reflect on our own golf recipes. In this particular case I am not just talking about golf swings or golf games (although that in it-self will do no harm) but maybe to consider how we might get more out of golf experience. How we can enjoy ourselves even more, make better use of this wonderful game and the facilities we have at our golf clubs. Looking to point our golf in the right direction every now and then is a positive step to a successful golfing year.
