Straight back for good chipping
Straight back for good chipping
Here’s a little tip that may help to improve your chipping. One of the more consistent problems that can affect golfers chipping methods is they have the club lie too flat at address and the swing back too much around or inside the target line to early. (Fig 1)
Stand to the ball with the club nice and upright, this may mean gripping down the club slightly to help get the club under you a bit more. The feeling in the backswing is that you swing back in a straight line with the target line (fig 2). The club will definitely come inside this line at some point so it is only a perception or feel that we swing back straight. This helps to keep the chipping swing on plane and promotes a better contact
