The West Course
Imaginative, inventive and smart—that’s how many describe David McLay Kidd’s wonderful design at Powerscourt. Built in the years after McLay Kidd rose to prominence for his work at Bandon Dunes, Powerscourt’s West Course sits in the foothills of Ireland’s Wicklow Mountains, and is a parkland design that is always routed on a grand scale with large clever greens and bunkering, as well as 80 feet of elevation change.

David McLay Kidd
Born in Scotland, McLay Kidd made his reputation as the rookie designer behind Bandon Dunes on the Oregon coast of the United States. Immediately heralded as one of the best designs to open in decades, the course immediately jumped into the Top 100 in the world, where it remains to this day. In the ensuing years, McLay Kidd has worked throughout the world, from Portugal to Hawaii, Wisconsin to England. His best known designs include Gamble Sands’ two course in Washington, and Mammoth Dunes in rural Wisconsin.

The East Course
Crafted by Peter McEvoy, one of the finest British amateur golfers in history, Powerscourt’s East Course showcases the majestic natural property in all its glory. “Is a well-balanced course, and there are some really great holes,” said McEvoy, who passed in 2005 after designing numerous courses throughout Ireland. “It is a great site with sandy soil, and I’m very proud of it.”
COURSE DESIGNER
Peter McEvoy
Hailing from London, McEvoy is recognized as one of the greatest amateur golfers in the country’s history as the two-time winner of the British Amateur and the first British amateur to make the cut at the Masters. McEvoy was involved in golf design for much of the later part of his life, including creating courses throughout Ireland. He was Chairman of the R&A Selection Committee and received an Order of the British Empire in 2003. A member of the England Golf Hall of Fame, he passed away in 2025.

Practice at Powerscourt
Boasting one of the best practice facilities in Ireland, the driving range at Powerscourt is located adjacent to the first tee of the East Course, and a short walk from the West.
Available to those playing with of the championship courses, range tokens can be purchased at the golf shop. The range which has 12 practice bays allows the golfer looking to improve their game to play from grass tees or mats depending on the time of the year.
Short Game
A great place to hone your chipping, pitching and bunker skills, this offers guests the opportunity to prepare for the challenge they’ll face on the East and West Course. With a short par-3 practice hole to hone your game, you’ll find an opportunity to work on all facets of chipping and pitching.
Pro Instruction
Our teaching professional: Paul Thompson is a PGA Specialist Coach and has played a pivotal role at Powerscourt Golf Club since it first opened in 1996. Originally from Yorkshire in England, Paul moved to Ireland in 1991 where he is now a renowned and well-respected golf coach. As well as his work at the golf club with both members and corporate clients, Paul coaches many of Ireland’s most promising young golfers in his role as a coach with the golfing union’s high-performance programmes.

Group Lessons
If you have a small number of like-minded friends who also want to improve their golf why not consider some small group sessions.
Over a 1 ½ hour period each session can cover a different aspect to your game. From short game (putting, chipping and bunkers) to long game, Paul will look at the most effective techniques and how to implement them in your game. Minimum of 2 persons and maximum of 4.
Cost: €150 per session (cost is per session not per person).
Full Day Package
The full day will include 9 holes of playing golf, lunch and long and short game tuition.
Duration: 5 1/2 hours
Cost: Single Person €450 , Two Person’s €600, Three People €750
